Knowledge Asset

The content on this page is based heavily on the book 'Learning to Fly by Chris Collison and Geoff Parcell (Capstone Press, 2004) with permission from the authors. You can find much more material on Knowledge Assets on the Internet.

The idea of a Knowledge Asset

There is a wealth of knowledge based on a vast number of individual experiences on, for example, the 10 practises which lead to AIDS Competence. But none of us has the time to go through all of those experiences to pick out the ones which might be relevant to our particular situation.

But what would it be like if you could find out the 10 most important things that you should know about each practise? And for each of those important things or principles, you could find out more details, more stories and people that you could talk to find out more? This would be a Knowledge Asset. A Knowledge Asset is an attempt to distill the vast amount of experiences into a form which allows to use in your own particular context.

A Constellation Knowledge Asset

A Constellation Knowledge Asset consists of a set of common principles. Each of the principles is illuminated by particular experiences. And, in turn, each of those experiences is supported by 'deeper' reference material, perhaps documents, sound clips or video clips and by contacts to people who can give further details.
