The AIDS Competence process has been adapted to malaria

Since June 2005, the Constellation has been working with the Roll Back Malaria Partnership

We facilitate the Mombassa Group, a network with members in 12 countries who are implementing the Malaria Competence process. The goal of the Mombassa Group is to develop Malaria Competent societies, where vulnerable groups stop seeing malaria as a fact of life, and take the lead in fighting the disease. Facilitators help local communities to assess and use their own strengths to roll back malaria and to connect with other communities. Participating communities are making a greater use of bed nets and malaria medicines. The evidence of the potential impact of the approach is growing. (Article Mombassa Group KM4Dev, January 2007).

The Constellation facilitated an experience-based Peer Assist for all participants of the Roll Back Malaria Global Partner's Forum V meeting in 2005 in Yaoundé, Cameroon. (Report Forum V)

As a result, the Constellation was invited to join the Roll Back Malaria Task Force in 2006 and the Malaria Competence Approach was integrated into Roll Back Malaria's toolkit and general policy.
