“Previous to knowing the SALT approach, I had the impression that the community had no strengths to show concern for needy. But after implementing this approach I strongly believe that community has lot of strengths to solve their issues. For instance, through the SALT approach, women saving groups have started including PLHIV in the group. A HIV positive woman, Koteshwari, was deserted by her husband. Her community also ostracized her. However, with SALT approach the community accepted her and provided her help.” Jayakar Kotte, Share an Opportunity (SAO) India

Organisations of disabled people –deaf, blind and physically disabled- and AIDS organisations across 3 provinces in Mozambique built their capacity to facilitate the AIDS Competence Process.
"We were expecting people from outside to come and bring us stuff. Material stuff in our communities. Knowledge stuff in this workshop. But instead this process is helping us to think for ourselves, about ourselves first," shared a participant during the workshop.

“Why do you look so happy?” I asked Eli, youth leader in Walis Station.
“The AIDS Competence Process is really developing my leadership. I can talk. I can think. And also I can do something for the youth. I can make the youth and the community come together and do something together. This will highlight strengths in the community and it will reduce our weaknesses.”
