AKDN and The Constellation in Kenya
The Constellation partnership with AKDN began in April 2005. During the last 2 years, it has worked through the AKDN HIV/AIDS Network Facilitation Team of Kenya to introduce the AIDS Competence Process to the 16 institutions which make up the National Facilitation Team.
Dr Kamran Hameed of the Aga Khan University Hospital sees the AIDS Competence process as being the catalyst which has brought the diverse elements of the network together. For the first time in his experience, they see a common purpose and a common goal.
The AIDS Competence Process has now been integrated into the policy of AKDN and already practical benefits are being delivered. These range from institutions seeing large increases in the number of staff volunteering to establish their HIV/AIDS status through to sharing information on access to ARVs.
