UNFPA supports countries in using population data for policies and programmes to reduce poverty and to ensure that every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is safe, every young person is free of HIV/AIDS, and every girl and woman is treated with dignity and respect. UNFPA – because everyone counts.
UNFPA and local governments of West Kalimantan and Papua
In December 2006 a team of 3 coaches visited Jakarta, the Indonesian capita,l and the provinces of Papua and West Kalimantan. The Constellation team demonstrated the AIDS Competence approach through SALT visits in the two provinces.
They discussed the opportunities for collaboration with the local government both Provinces. In Jakarta the team briefed the NACP and UN Theme group on the AIDS Competence approach and explore opportunities for further spreading of AIDS Competence in the country. A two year project is likely to start during 2007.
“You have provided us with an intelligent way for moving forward”, said the mayor of Pontianak, West Kalimantan.
